Resistant stress for creep in cast nickel-base superalloys

AbstractOn the basis of reviewing briefly the particle hardening theories and various dislocation creep theories, a modified dislocation creep model was proposed, in which the resistant stress is a key factor to creep mechanism. When applied stress is high enough for the dislocations to cut into the gamma' particles, it is thought that creep deformation is mainly controlled by the particle cutting mechanism, and the resistant stress is almost a constant, which is irrelative to the size of gamma' particles and applied stress. At low applied stress, it is suggested that creep deformation is mainly controlled by the dislocations climb mechanism. In this case, the resistant stress has two components: a threshold stress term defined by the minimum stress required for various climb mechanism, and a friction stress term represented by the contribution of solid-solution strengthening and dislocation strengthening, which is strongly dependent on applied stress. Finally, the model is verified in three cast nickel-base superalloys such as DS DZ17G, cast IN100, and IN738. The results of detailed calculations in terms of SL theory are in good agreement with the experimental data.
