AbstractThe oxidation behavior of a cast Ni-base superalloy K35 in air over the temperature range of 850 to 1000 degreesC for period up to 100 h has been studied. The results indicate that oxidation kinetics obey parabolic law from which the values of activation energy Qp(1) = 274 kJ/mol and Q(p2) = 315 kJ/mol were estimated. The scales on the surface were determined by SEM, and EPMA equipped with an EDXS unit. The results show that oxidation scales are composed of loose upper layer consisted of TiO2/TiO-Cr2O3 and a small amount of NiCr2O4 and NiAl2O4, compact intermediate layer Cr2O3, as well as discrete internal oxides Al2O3.
