AbstractBased on the statistical theory of grain growth and the probabilistic rule, a 2D cellular automata (CA) model for normal grain growth is proposed, into which the curvature-driven mechanism is explicitly introduced. This CA model produces a good linear relationship between the growth rate and the boundary curvature (1/R-c-1/R) of grains, which is difficult for the traditional grain growth CA models. Based on the CA model, the important phenomena of curvature-driven grain growth are investigated, including growth kinetics, grain size and side number distributions and the time invariance of the grain size and side distributions. The simulation results correspond well with theoretical predictions for the dynamics of grain growth.
