AbstractTexture evolution has been studied in both parent beta and transformed alpha phases during the hot compression of Ti60 alloy in both the alpha + beta (1005 degrees C and 1035 degrees C) and beta phase (1065 degrees C) fields, followed by air cooling using detailed electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) mapping. The reason for the development of the transformed alpha textures is discussed in the paper. The formation of the alpha texture was associated with the texture of parent beta and variant selection during beta -> alpha transformation. The effect of variant selection on the texture evolution was assessed by comparing the measured alpha textures with the predicted ones based on the beta texture with the assumption that no variant selection had occurred. The mechanism of variant selection effected by the slip system of the beta phase and the high-temperature texture of beta/alpha(p) are also discussed.
