AbstractInterfacial grooving induced by dislocation stress takes place at gamma/gamma' interfaces during creep and aging of a third-generation nickel-based single crystal superalloy at 1120 degrees C. At the tip of grooves, gamma' phase is directly measured under compressive stress of interfacial dislocations, which likely drives the gamma'-forming elements out. The enrichment of Re and Co elements are detected in the tip. Meanwhile, gamma' precipitates coarsen much faster when more grooves form at the interfaces along the coarsening direction. This suggests that interfacial grooves facilitate the rafting of gamma' precipitates, especially under the creep stress. (C) 2019 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
