AbstractMacroscope carbon nanotube ribbons have been synthesized by a Chemical Vapor Deposition(CVD) method. Xylene was used as the carbon source and ferrocene as the catalyst, stainless steel sheets coating with a thin SiO2 film were taken as growth substrates. The ribbons are about 20 similar to 100 mu m wide, 10 similar to 30 mu m thick and their length over 6 mm in 6 hours. Each ribbon consists a large amount of very clean multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWNTs). The carbon nanotubes align along the direction in length. Scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and Raman analysis were used to evaluate the morphological and structural features of such nanotube-based material. The formation mechanism of ribbons is discussed.
