AbstractA novel method for predicting variant selection of twins was built. The results generated in this study were used to identify the twin variants in pure hafnium after indentation deformation (ID). Our results reveal that six {1 01 2} tensile twin (TTs) variants were easily formed in the grains located near (0001) orientation having no active slip systems. However, the number of the TTs variants would be reduced in the grains having active slip systems. Moreover, this method can also be used to identify other types of twin variants.
