AbstractAmorphous, glassy alloys have attracted the attention of scientists and technologists all over the world for the past 20 years. It is generally agreed that the transition from metal liquid to glass occurs at a viscosity of 10(11)-10(12) Pasec [10(12)-10(13) poise], within a narrow temperature range known as the glass transition temperature; T-g. Unfortunately, theoretical calculations of T-g do not yet exist. A mathematical model for the calculation of the viscosity temperature dependence is proposed, based on the free-volume model and some commonly adopted criteria for glass forming ability of binary alloys.
