AbstractThis part is the verification and application of the local and through models as described in previous part 1 [7]. In-house software system ROLLAN (Rolling Analysis) is developed in our laboratory to simulate the process history such as temperature evolution, strain and rolling force etc. Metallurgical phenomena include recrystallization in roughing and finishing, phase transformation in laminar cooling and final mechanical properties. Each local model is verified by laboratory and hot strip mill experiments, and a large amount of experimental data from the mill is collected for computational use. The mechanical properties of samples from the strip tail are compared with results predicted by the models. They agree very well for C-Mn steels. In addition, two typical strip coils are opened, cut in the room temperature and divided into multi-sections. The calculated and the measured microstructure and mechanical properties along the length direction are compared. The results show that both yield strength and tensile strength are in good agreement. Though elongation reveals a little deviation, reasonable agreement with the predicted results is achieved. However, it is also found that the properties vary in the length direction of the strip. Analysis indicates that this is caused by the inhomogeneity of the microstructure, while the latter is caused by process parameters.
