Abstract | The study investigated the effect of high hydrostatic pressure on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of Ti-6Al-4 V alloy in 3.5% NaCl solution at 2 degrees C, by slow strain rate testing at 0.1 MPa and20 MPa. The fractography exhibited a mixed fracture with small and shallow dimples, as well as cleavage and quasi-cleavage surfaces at the two pressures. High hydrostatic pressure enhances SCC of Ti-6Al-4 V alloy at 20 MPa, by facilitating the dissolution of titanium and decreasing the resistance of oxide film. The hydrostatic pressure also promotes the formation of delta hydrides at the alpha/beta interface of Ti-6Al-4 V alloy. |
