AbstractCold-rolled IF steel was treated by surface mechanical attrition, and a gradient structure with grain size varing from nano-scale to micro-scale was obtained. The structure, texture and properties were examined by using different techniques. Experimental results show that the surface nanocrystallization of cold-rolled IF steel is documented by dislocation activities, the existence of textures can't affect the grain refinement behaviours. With the increment of misorientations in the grain refinement process, the texture components remain unchanged, however intensities of them reduce continuously, untill entirely disappeared. Grain refinement procedure of cold-rolled IF steel permarily depends upon the textures of rolling planes, and those grains with {100} or {111} parallel to rolling plane are easy to be refined. The experiments also indicate that the strength, elongation and Erichsen number of cold-rolled IF steel were enhanced after attrition.
