The Effect of Deformation Parameters on Advanced High Strength Steel Treated by Quenching-Partitioning-Tempering Process

AbstractFor advanced high strength steel, the interaction between deformation and transformation through the novel Quenching-Partitioning-Tempering (Q-P-T) process was studied by applying deformation into the traditional Q-P-T process. The comparison results of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel deformed at different temperatures during Q-P-T process indicate that 850 :C and 70% are the optimized deformation parameters to obtain superior comprehensive performance. The microstructure characterization by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) reveals that the high strength of the deformed steel results from dislocation-type martensite laths and NbC carbides precipitated dispersively in martensite matrix, while excellent ductility is attributed to the considerable amount of stable retained austenite in the microstructure at room temperature. The relationship between mechanical properties and microstructures at different deformation temperatures was also tentatively explored.
