Significant Enhancement in Cryogenic Mechanical Properties of Cu-Al Alloy via Minor Recrystallization

AbstractThe mechanical properties of cold-rolled (CR) and partially recrystallized (PRX) Cu-Al alloy are investigated by tensile tests at 77 and 293K. While the uniform elongation is limited for the CR specimens at both temperatures, uniform elongation is enhanced unprecedentedly from 2.4% at 293K to 16.5% at 77K for the PRX specimens. In contrast to the sole contribution of recrystallized grains via wavy slip at 293K, the prominent uniform elongation at 77K is attributed to the multiple deformation mechanisms within recrystallized grains and the harmonization of plastic deformation between recrystallized grains and matrix.
